Stanley Cup[]
The Pittsburgh Penguins have won a total of five Stanley Cups. Four of these were back to back in 1990-1991 and 1991-1992, and 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. In 2017, the Penguins became the first team to win the Cup back to back in the salary cap era, and the first team in nineteen years to complete the feat.
2017[]
The Penguins became the Stanley Cup champions in Game 6 against the Nashville Predators in Nashville. The score was 2-0. Patric Hornqvist, who was drafted by Nashville in 2005 with the very last pick, scored the game-winning goal for Pittsburgh. Matt Murray became the only goalie rookie in history to have won two Cups. Sidney Crosby was voted MVP and awarded the Conn Smythe trophy - an announcement that he missed because he was busy taking a selfie with his teammates. He is only the third player to win the trophy two years in a row, and only the sixth player to have ever won it twice.
2016[]
The Penguins became the Stanley Cup champions in Game 6 against the San Jose Sharks in San Jose. The score was 3-1. Kris Letang scored the game-winning goal. Sidney Crosby was voted MVP and awarded the Conn Smythe trophy for the first time in his career.
2009[]
The Penguins became the Stanley Cup champions in Game 7 against the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit. It was the first Cup win in the Crosby/Malkin era. The score was 2-1. Max Talbot scored the game-winning goal. Evgeni Malkin was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy for playoff MVP.
1992[]
The Penguins became back to back Stanley Cup champions in Game 4 against the Chicago Blackhawks in Chicago. The Penguins swept the team in route to their win. The score was 6-5. Mario Lemiuex was awarded the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP. He became only the second person in NHL history to win the trophy in consecutive years.
1991[]
The Penguins became the Stanley Cup champions for the first time in franchise history in Game 6 against the Minnesota North Stars in Minnesota. The score was 8-0. Mario Lemieux was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy for playoff MVP.
