On Sunday 20 March 2008, Evgeni Malkin was cut on his left cheek by the skate blade of Brandon Dubinsky (now with the Columbus Blue Jackets). Malkin needed about 10 stitches near his left eye.

The incident took place during the second period of the Penguins' 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Mellon Arena. Malkin was cut when Dubinsky accidentally stepped on him behind the goal in the north end zone. Malkin temporarily left the game, but played more than nine minutes in the final period.[1]
