The 63rd All Star Weekend was held in Tampa Bay from Friday 26 - Sunday 28 January 2018. Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang were the Pittsburgh Penguins representatives for the event. The All Star game was won by the Pacific Division.
The Skills Competition[]
The 2018 ASG event was notable for its new and more complicated skills events. Letang, who took part in the passing challenge, was comforted by Crosby who tried to keep him calm:
"I was trying to keep Tanger calm. He was like, ‘you’ve gotta be kidding me.’ I was feeling for him. That was one of the toughest ones."[1]
Phil Kessel Snub[]
There was some controversy regarding Phil Kessel's exclusion from the All Star roster. As the leading goal-scorer and point leader of the Penguins, Kessel's exclusion came as a surprise to a lot of people and was considered one of the biggest snubs of the 2018 ASG.[2]
